• Bugatti and Jacob & Co have teamed up for a limited edition timepiece.
  • The watch draws inspiration from the Bugatti Tourbillon and features a mini V16 engine, which runs for 20 seconds at a time.
  • Production is limited to 150 units and it reportedly costs $340,000.

The Bugatti Tourbillon sounds like a watch and things get even more confusing when you consider the company partnered with Jacob & Co on the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon watch in 2020. Production was limited to 250 units and each featured a mini W16 engine as well as a $280,000 price tag.

Fast forward to today and Jacob & Co has introduced the new Bugatti Tourbillon, which “reimagines the achievements, complexity, and appearance of Bugatti’s latest hyper sports car.” It features a black titanium case as well as a sapphire engine block with 16 titanium pistons.

However, the real coup de grâce is a 20 second animated sequence that shows the engine in action. It’s a moving work of art that feels immensely special in an era of boring smartwatches.

The watch has 557 components as well as a 30-second double-pace flying tourbillion. They’re joined by a twin power reserve, a crown that mimics the car’s control knobs, and sub-dials that are designed to echo the hypercar’s dashboard and rev counter.

Jacob & Co said ten design elements are drawn directly from the car. Aside from the ones mentioned above, the company noted the case’s “shape is the same as Bugatti’s car, with the front grille flanked by two side radiator inlets. The case sides show two large sapphire openings, shaped and tinted like the car’s side windows.”

The two companies started talking about the Tourbillon in September of 2022 and Jacob & Co visited Bugatti’s design studio the following year. The resulting timepiece was created over the course of 18 months in collaboration with Bugatti’s design team.

Jacob & Co Founder Jacob Arabo said, “I live to push watchmaking to new levels, coming up with designs and complications that no one had even dreamed about. Bugatti is the same. They push everything beyond what everyone thinks is the limit. The Bugatti Tourbillon is our most advanced timepiece, the great achievement of a great partnership.”

Production will be limited to 150 units and the watch reportedly costs $340,000.
