- Ram has announced plans to introduce an updated heavy duty pickup later this year.
- The model will have new technology as well as an upgraded Cummins powertrain.
- The truck should also have revised styling and an updated interior.
Ram CEO Chris Feuell has revealed the company is working on an updated heavy duty pickup, which will arrive later this year. The executive didn’t say much about it, but described the model as a “new iteration” that will incorporate the latest technology from the Ram 1500.
Feuell was coy on specifics, but the facelifted 1500 has an improved 12-inch infotainment system as well as a newly available 14.5-inch display. Customers can also opt for a 10.25-inch front passenger display as well as a dual wireless smartphone charger.

We wouldn’t be surprised to find the new screens in the updated 2500 HD and 3500 HD, nor would we be shocked if the models receive a new Tungsten trim. Feuell also hinted at more autonomous driving technology, so it’s possible that Hands-Free Driving Assist could be added to the heavy duty pickups.
While the executive was coy on specifics, she did confirm an “improved powertrain, thanks to our friends at Cummins.” While news of a Ram 5500 FCEV surfaced earlier this year, Feuell is presumably talking about an upgraded 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six.

The current engine is offered in two different outputs with the entry-level unit developing 370 hp (276 kW / 375 PS) and 850 lb-ft (1,151 Nm) of torque. The high-output version cranks those numbers up to 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 1,075 lb-ft (1,456 Nm).
Last but not least, previous spy photos have suggested we can expect a handful of styling tweaks. The changes are expected to be minor and primarily focused on the grille and lighting units.
In other news, Feuell revealed the Laramie and Big Horn are the most popular versions of the Ram 1500. These two trims account for around 42% of sales in North America. That being said, the company has high hopes for the all-new Ram 1500 RHO, which offers “more horsepower per dollar than any performance truck” while also hitting a “sweet spot” in regards to pricing and profit margins.
