• Honda reports a fourth straight month of sales of over 100,000 units.
  • The HR-V (47.5 percent) and Civic (48.9 percent) recorded huge sales increases for the month of May 2024 compared to the same month last year.
  • Accord sales dropped by 31.1 percent in May 2023 versus May 2024, and Passport sales were down by 28.7 percent.

Honda is on the up, with a 14 percent year-on-year sales increase for the first five months of the year. It’s also the fourth consecutive month that Honda sales have crossed the 100,000 mark, with 114,000 deliveries in May. Honda’s success contrasts with that of its luxury offshoot, Acura, which reported a drop in sales of all but one of its models.

The Civic recorded a 48.9 percent increase in May 2024 compared to the same month last year. The compact model that’s available in both hatchback and sedan body styles sold 23,987 units last month alone and 107,959 so far this year. The Civic’s success is contrasted by the Civic-based Acura Integra, which only managed to shift 2,563 units in May, with a MoM decline of 8.7 percent.

However, it’s a different story for the Accord. The nameplate may have been around in the U.S. since 1976, but sales have proved to be lagging lately. While Accord numbers were down 17 percent YoY, they’re also 31 percent down in May 24 compared to this time last year.

Honda’s biggest sales slide, however, came from two of the company’s trucks. With just 3,150 units finding new homes in May 2024, Passport sales were 28.7 percent down from May 2023, while year-to-date sales were 32 percent less. Honda’s aging Ridgeline, which has been around since 2016, took an even steeper plunge, with month-to-date sales dropping by 65.3 percent and year-to-date sales falling by 25.5 percent.

However, Honda’s truck division still managed to return a year-to-date improvement of 16.1 percent, bolstered by strong performances from the HR-V, CR-V, and Pilot.

Meanwhile, Honda’s Prologue EV, co-developed with General Motors, began deliveries in May with 612 units rolling off dealer lots. Combined with the CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid, electrified sales from Honda total 26,912, with hybrid variants accounting for over 50 percent of both models’ sales.
