• Jeep is looking to ramp of sales of plug-in hybrids.
  • A Gladiator 4xe and range-extended Wagoneers are due next year.
  • Jeep is also said to be considering traditional hybrids.

Jeep makes the two best-selling plug-in hybrids in America, but that isn’t enough for the off-road brand. Quite the opposite as they’re aiming to increase PHEV sales by as much as 50% this year alone.

Speaking to CNBC, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa revealed the brand expects to sell 160,000 to 170,000 plug-in hybrids in the United States in 2024. That would be a sizable jump as the publication reports the brand only sold 113,113 PHEVs last year.

Since 4xe versions of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have proven popular, more eco-friendly variants are on the horizon. In particular, Filosa has already confirmed a Gladiator 4xe will arrive in 2025.

It’s expected to echo the Wrangler and feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, a 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor. This setup enables the SUV to have a combined output of 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque as well as an electric-only range of 21 miles (34 km).

More recently, the executive revealed plans for 4xe versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. They’re slated to arrive in 2025 with a range-extended powertrain that borrows heavily from the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. The pickup features a 92 kWh battery pack, a 3.6-liter V6 engine that acts as a generator, and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 663 hp (494 kW / 672 PS) and 615 lb-ft (833 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to have a range of up to 690 miles (1,110 km).

While much of the focus is on plug-in hybrids and EVs, like the Wagoneer S, officials told the publication they’re considering traditional hybrids as well. Some reports have already suggested a hybrid powertrain could appear on the redesigned Cherokee.
