The W124 generation of Mercedes-Benz E-Class is undoubtedly one of the standouts of the marque’s storied history. It was, by all accounts, an engineering masterclass with a timeless design. If offered a balance of comfort, with supreme ride quality and road holding—not to mention being one of the most reliable Mercs ever made.
The brainchild of famed Mercedes design director Bruno Sacco, it incorporated thoughtful features, such as a single-arm wiper that covered a greater percentage of the windscreen than conventional designs, and rear lights that were designed to be visible even if caked with snow.

Yep, bar a slight misstep with the dreaded biodegradable wiring harness, there are many reasons to love the Mercedes W124. But does that warrant a $100,000 price tag? Well, apparently, if it’s for a low-mileage E300 diesel, then yes!
An 8,400-mile 1995 Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel just sold for a whopping $101,000 on Bring A Trailer. Now granted, 8,400 miles (13,518 km) is exceptionally low for any W124, but perhaps more so for a diesel.
The diesel-powered E300 featured the tried and tested OM606 straight-six powerplant. As an engine, it never threatened to set the world alight, but it was not unheard of to see them clocking up some crazy miles. In fact, they were often favored for their mile-munching abilities, which means that low-mileage examples are few and far between.
But regardless of the low-mileage significance, it’s still an impressive sale price. It is made even more so when you realize that an uber-exclusive, Porsche-built Mercedes-Benz E500 changed hands for the same price in January. And while it had nearly triple the mileage under its belt, 23,000 miles for a car that was built in 1994 is still well within the definition of “low mileage.”
Perhaps even more astounding is that this $101,000 Merc isn’t even the BaT record holder for E300 diesels. That honor falls to a 10k-Mile W124 E300 that sold in 2023 for a whopping $152,607. So, the question really falls to you, the reader.
