- Mercedes’ Manufaktur personalization team has created the limited Golden Coast edition of the SL 63 4Matic+.
- Production is limited to 100, each painted kalahari gold magno and featuring gold highlights on the 21-inch wheels, dashboard and seats.
- The 577 hp 4.0-liter bi-turbo powertrain is unchanged and moves the glitzy SL to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds.
Any Mercedes SL 63 is going to grab some admiring glances when it cruises by, but Mercedes’ Manufaktur division is here with the limited edition SL 63 Golden Coast to remind us that it has the Midas touch when it comes to turning heads.
The Manufaktur department is Benz’s personalization team, the folks who will color match your fenders to your wife’s Fendi handbag – for a price. The whole personalization thing is a huge money spinner for all luxury car brands and the Gold Coast is the latest of a series of four-wheeled shop windows designed to promote Manufaktur services.

Gold Coast production is limited to 100 units, each based around the $187,000 SL 63 4Matic+, but painted kalahari gold magno and featuring more of the glitzy stuff on the rims and center caps of the matte-black 21-inch AMG forged wheels and inside the cabin.
The gold stitching on the quilted Nappa leather AMG Performance seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel and leather-edged, deep-pile floor mats is relatively discrete, but that’s not something you could say for the coloring applied to the door panels or lower console. You also get a “Manufaktur, Golden Coast” plaque on the console below the portrait infotainment screen, though seemingly without any kind of production number or reference to the model’s rarity.
Under the skin, the Golden Coast is the same as any other SL 63, meaning it’s equipped with a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that kicks out an ample 577 hp (585 PS) and gets the roadster to 62 mph (100 kmh) in 3.6 seconds.
The 63’s position as head of the the SL range has recently been taken by the 805 hp (816 PS) SL 63 S E Performance, which adds hybrid power to the V8 and gets to 62 mph (100 kmh), but we guess if you offered the Manufaktur guys enough money they’d do you a kalahari gold magno one of those, too.
