• The company has revealed the headlights are aimed slightly too low.
  • This means that they may not illuminate the road properly, falling foul of federal standards and increasing the chances of an accident.
  • A total of 2,334 vehicles in the U.S. need to be fixed.

Rivian is recalling more than 2,300 R1S, R1T, and EDV models in the United States because their headlights may not meet production specifications or Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The carmaker has revealed that specific 2023 and 2024 examples of the R1T, R1S, and EDV have headlights aimed slightly too low. As such, the vehicles may not adequately illuminate the road while driving, increasing the risk of a crash, especially at night.

In total, 2,334 vehicles are being recalled. These consist of R1S models manufactured between April 7, 2023, and March 25, 2023, R1Ts built between September 9, 2023, and March 25, 2024, and EDVs assembled from April 27, 2023, to March 15, 2024.

Rivian’s vehicle manufacturing team first identified a potential issue in aiming between headlight alignment stations on February 7, 2024. It initiated an investigation and determined that some headlights were not adjusted correctly.

Owners of impacted models will be notified by mail on or before July 6. Rivian outlets will check the headlight assembly on affected vehicles and if necessary, correct them free of charge.

This isn’t the first time select Rivian models have been recalled over a minor issue. In May, the company recalled 127 R1T and R1S models because they were missing an airbag label on the dashboard. To resolve this issue, Rivian will mail out the airbag stickers to owners and request they stick them onto the dashboard.

Rivian is gearing up to release the 2025 R1T and R1S in the U.S. later this year. The new Standard Range models will ditch the old 105.9 kWh battery in favor of a smaller 92.5 kWh pack. Rivian has also removed the 21-inch wheel option and designed new 22-inch rims for the electric SUV and pickup.
