- Land Rover and Jaguar models are being recalled in the US due to faulty oil filter housing.
- Nearly 2,100 vehicles are impacted, including the Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and Jaguar F-Pace.
- Owners will be notified and receive a free replacement of the oil filter housing, filter, and associated o-rings.
Numerous Land Rover models and the Jaguar F-Pace have a faulty engine oil filter housing that could leak oil into the engine and trigger a fire. The issue has forced the car manufacturer to issue a recall for approximately 2,100 vehicles in the United States.
Engine oil is best kept inside an engine, but a recall issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that an incorrect specification of plastic was used to manufacture the oil filter housing. Over time, this plastic will slowly split and cause an oil leak. Jaguar Land Rover notes that in addition to oil dripping onto hot engine surfaces increasing the risk of fire, oil could also leak onto the road, putting other motorists in danger.

Two separate recalls have been issued. The first impacts 1,995 Land Rover models from the 2024 model year. These include the Defender built from November 30, 2023, to February 26, 2024, the Discovery built from November 30, 2023, to January 10, 2024, Range Rover models produced from November 29, 2023, to December 21, 2023, Range Rover Sports made from November 28, 2023, to January 9, 2024, and Range Rover Velar models built from December 4, 2023, to December 18, 2023.
The 2024 F-Pace is the sole Jaguar recalled, with 133 units needing repairs, all of which were built from November 29, 2023, to December 18, 2023.
Jaguar Land Rover says it has received a combined 8 claims and field reports of the issue from Land Rover and Jaguar owners in the U.S. It’s also aware of a small number of fires triggered by the leaky oil filter, so this is an issue that owners of impacted vehicles should take seriously.
Dealers started to be informed of the recall on June 14, while owners will be alerted on or before August 9. Remedying the issue will necessitate replacing the oil filter housing, filter, and associated o-rings free of charge.
