• Vikas Parikh’s Cybertruck had to be repaired but when it was fixed, the dealer gave him the wrong one.
  • The owner only noticed the mix-up when he returned home and saw a different VIN.
  • Despite attempts to contact Tesla, the owner claims he has been unable to resolve the issue.

Taking delivery of a new car is supposed to be an amazing experience, but for the owner of a Tesla Cybertruck in the US, it turned into a debacle when he left the showroom with the wrong vehicle. So, how did this nightmare unfold?

Late last week, IT executive Vikas Parikh aired his grievances on X, detailing his experience at a Tesla delivery center in Houston, Texas. In tweets directed at Elon Musk and Tesla, Parikh recounted visiting the Houston-Cypress center to pick up his Cybertruck, only to encounter a problem with the passenger seat during the handover

A decision was made to repair the electric pickup, so Parikh left the showroom without his vehicle. The following Tuesday, the Tesla app notified him that his Cybertruck was ready for pickup. Upon returning to the dealership, he was informed that deliveries were not scheduled for Tuesdays.

However, after a search of their lot, they located his truck and allowed him to take it home. Upon arriving home, he made a shocking discovery—the Cybertruck he received was not his own.

Parikh alleges that upon arriving home, he discovered the VIN of the EV he took was different from the one initially delivered to him after the passenger seat repair. In his tweets, Parikh claims he’s been unable to reach Tesla to resolve the mix-up and is unable to drive the Cybertruck because it’s registered under a different VIN than the one he insured.

The frustrated owner’s original tweets appeared to have been deleted but were shared on Reddit. We’ve reached out to Parikh to see if Tesla has contacted him about the mistake and if he has been given the Cybertruck that he originally paid for.

We will update this story when we hear back.
