It seems like only yesterday that the BMW i7 hit the market, and it appears as though the car manufacturer is already preparing it for a facelift.
Recently, Carscoops reader Sofiane spotted an intriguing i7 shrouded in camouflage in Paderborn, Germany. The car was in a nondescript parking lot and left unattended, and the camouflage wrap probably drew more attention to it than if its red panels had been on full display.

There are some tell-tale signs that this is the flagship i7 M70. For starters, the prototype has the same blacked-out grille as the M70 and the slightly more shapely and aggressive front bumper of the flagship performance model. Curiously, we can’t see any obvious design changes that have been made to the car’s front fascia.
Elsewhere, the prototype sits on a set of silver and black wheels, appearing to be borrowed from a lower-end model. The camouflage extends down both sides, across the roof, and covers almost all of the rear fascia. Speaking of the rear, it’s the only area of the car’s body that we can spot a difference from the existing i7 M70. This prototype has a more aggressive diffuser with four central vanes, adding to the car’s sporty look. Like the current car, a teeny tiny lip spoiler is on the trunk lid.
If BMW is indeed working on an updated version of the i7 M70, it’s reasonable to assume that updates are also being developed for lesser i7 and combustion-powered 7-Series models. Of course, the new car isn’t exactly crying out for upgrades and impressed us massively when we drove it late last year.
Beyond slight exterior alterations, BMW could also make some small changes to the interior of its flagship luxury sedan. Power increases would also be welcome but we’re not holding our breath.
Hat tip to Sofiane for sending in these photos!
