Remember that famous episode of Oprah when she gave everyone in the audience a new car? “You get a car! You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!”, she shouted. Well, that’s pretty much how the car industry in China seems to be operating at the moment as every other day, a new car launches on the local market. This is the latest and it’s called the Mona M03.
While many of the new cars in China come from newly-launched carmakers or sub-brands of existing firms, the Mona M03 comes from Xpeng and sits into the brand’s standard range of models. With that being said, Mona is being marketed as a distinct series within Xpeng, and stands for ‘Made Of New AI’ to highlight its focus on tech and “‘intelligent driving”/

Xpeng has worked with ride-hailing giant Didi on the Mona 03. In fact, Didi was in charge of the car’s design and it contributed to the research and development of it alongside Xpeng. The car company will be responsible for all things related to the supply chain and manufacturing of the model and work with Didi to sell it.
The 03 takes the form of a sleek sedan which will be positioned below the P5 on which it’s based in Xpeng’s current range. For the most part, the design and shape of the M03 is quite conventional for a sedan, although it does rock a pair of intriguing headlights and taillights that will certainly make it stand out on the road. Xpeng hasn’t shared any images of the EV’s interior but even in these shots of its exterior, the outline of a large central infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard is visible.
Local media reports the Mona 03 will be underpinned by Xpeng’s Fuyao architecture and come with the company’s advanced self-driving systems. It will hit the market with a BYD Blade LFP battery pack and should have a range of around 310 miles (500 km) on the Chinese testing cycle.
A key reason why Chinese EVs have taken off is their affordability and the Mona M03 will be no different. Prices are expected to start at around 100,000 yuan or ~$13,800 and top out at 150,000 yuan or roughly $20,700.
