• The Mona M03 is a new and affordable EV from China, claiming to be an aerodynamic champ.
  • The drag coefficient of 0.194 cd was achieved through a series of clever aerodynamic solutions.
  • The EV, made in China by Xpeng in collaboration with Didi, is similar in size to the Tesla Model 3.

Given the competitive nature and abundance of offerings in the Chinese market, EVs must display impressive specs and technological features to distinguish themselves. A standout example is the new Mona M03 by Xpeng touted as the most aerodynamic electric sedan in production, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.194 cd.

The company announced these impressive results ahead of the Mona M03’s anticipated market launch in China in the third quarter of 2024.

According to official data, key contributors to the record-breaking drag coefficient include the active intake on the lower front bumper (-0.023), wind guide plates at the rear (0.015 cd), and low-drag wheels (0.013 cd), among other aerodynamic solutions. The overall sleek design is reported to enhance efficiency by 15%, extending the range by 60 km (37 miles).

The Mona M03’s impressive 0.194 cd figure surpasses the claimed record of the BYD YangWang U6 sedan (0.195 cd). Additionally, Xpeng’s model outperforms other ultra-sleek electric sedans, including the Lucid Air (0.197 cd), Mercedes-Benz EQS (0.20 cd), Nio ET7 (0.208 cd), and Tesla Model S Plaid (0.208 cd).

Xpeng’s Mona M03 Claims To Be The Most Aerodynamic Electric Sedan Ever

What’s even more interesting is that the Mona M03 is expected to be significantly more affordable than the aforementioned models. Local media reports estimate its price to be around ¥150,000 ($20,700), placing it below the current Xpeng offerings.

The Mona M03 will also be smaller than other sedans by Xpeng, with dimensions similar to the Tesla Model 3. Specifically, the EV measures 4,780 mm (188.2 inches) long and has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm (110.8 inches).

As reported by Car News China, the Mona M03 will be available with a single electric motor producing either 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) or 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS). We also know that the sedan will come fitted with a BYD Blade battery pack, featuring lithium-iron phosphate technology.

Keep in mind that the M03 is the first production model from the Mona (“Made Of New AI”) series, which was created by Xpeng in collaboration with Didi’s EV unit.
