• This 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk is a custom one-off hot rod built over 17 years.
  • It features parts from various manufacturers like Ford, Chevy, Harley-Davidson, and even Audi.
  • The Studebaker will be up for auction at Mecum’s 2024 Harrisburg event on July 26th.

Custom hot rods are great, but very few are as extreme from an aesthetic standpoint as this 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Dubbed the Dream Roadster, it blends parts from various different car and motorcycle manufacturers into an asymmetrical design. After appearing in the video game Forza 4, it can now find its way into your garage as it’s headed to the auction block.

If you Google Studebaker Golden Hawk, the image you’ll get looks almost nothing like the car you see here. That’s because this one is a mix of parts that end up being greater together than they were apart. The hood, for example, is from a 1959 Ford Thunderbird. The rear sheet metal is from a 1963 Chevrolet Corvair. The headlights are from Harley-Davidson and the mirrors come from a 1965 Shelby Mustang.

A Lincoln Continental donated the tail lights and a 1988 Audi sunroof is grafted into the rear deck to provide access to the trunk and fuel filler. That hodgepodge of elements continues under the skin where you’ll find a 4.6-liter Ford V8, a three-speed automatic gearbox, the front suspension from a Corvette, and the rear suspension setup from a Jaguar.

Oddly, all of it manages to come together to look absolutely stunning. Some of that credit goes to the Sunrise Pearl paint, the 20-inch Weld Evo wheels, and the six-piston Wilwood brake calipers. In fact, it’s such an attractive package that Forza 4 featured it as part of its Hot Wheels Legends car pack.

The hot rod has also found huge success on the car show tour with notable victories at the Detroit Autorama, the St. Ignace Cup, and the 2021 Eyes on Design Concours d’Elegance.

Truly, it’s a feast for the eyes and will turn heads wherever it goes. Those interested can bid on the car in Mecum’s 2024 Harrisburg event on Friday, July 26th. There is no guidance on pricing for this one-of-a-kind car. Of course, considering its provenance, award history, and build quality, it would be hard to guess what it’ll go for.

We’ll be watching to see when the hammer falls.
