• The plug-in hydrogen SUV is being offered in 2-year, 3-year, and 6-year leases.
  • All three lease offers include generous allowable mileage and a hydrogen fuel credit.
  • There are just 48 hydrogen refueling stations in California.

Hydrogen refueling stations are few and far between in the United States, but that didn’t stop Honda from unveiling a hydrogen version of the CR-V named the e:FCEV, earlier this year. It’s now ready to launch the SUV, but you won’t be able to buy it. Instead, the CR-V e:FCEV can only be leased in the U.S. through one of three available leasing offers.

Honda will offer the CR-V e:FCEV on 2-year, 3-year, and 6-year leases. Customers who only want to commit to it for 2 years will have to hand over $489 per month, with $2,989 due at signing, and will be permitted to drive up to 60,000 miles (~96,500 km). Honda will provide a $25,000 hydrogen fuel credit to sweeten the deal, meaning customers may never have to pay to fuel their trick new SUV.

A 3-year lease deal is expected to be the most popular. It has monthly payments of $459, with $2,959 due at signing and a $15,000 hydrogen fuel credit. Curiously, this deal only allows for up to 36,000 miles (~57,900 km) during the course of the three-year lease. While that will be enough for most people, it’s significantly fewer miles than the 2-year, 60,000-mile (~96,500 km) option.

Those willing to commit to driving the CR-V e:FCEV for six years can sign up for a $389 monthly payment with $2,889 due at signing. This offer has an allowable mileage of 72,000 miles (~115,800 km) and comes with a $30,000 hydrogen fuel credit.

To make the deal even more attractive, the lease includes up to 21 days of access to a rental vehicle from Avis in California, along with 24/7 roadside assistance. Lessees will also receive stickers that allow them to use California’s HOV lanes.

Unfortunately for any hydrogen car enthusiast, the CR-V e:FCEV will only be available through a network of 12 approved Honda dealerships in California, including six dealers in Southern California, five in the San Francisco Bay Area, and one in the Sacramento area.
