Monterey Car Week is home to some of the most prestigious auctions in the country and they’re stepping up to the plate once again with a 1952 Chrysler Styling Special by Ghia.

Set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on August 15, the car debuted at the 1952 Paris Motor Show and is the original “Chrysler Special.” Despite being based on a New Yorker, the sports coupe has a shortened chassis and an unmistakable European flair. That being said, the model is still an American land yacht as it measures 214 inches (5,436 mm) long and has 119 inches (3,023 mm) between the wheels.

Besides being larger than the outgoing Dodge Challenger, the Styling Special has a timeless design with soft curves and oodles of chrome. They’re joined by a sizable grille, circular headlights, and a fastback roof. Other highlights include a hydraulically-controlled spare tire access door and a 40 gallon fuel tank with an “automatic filler cap.”

The two-tone interior sports a three person bench as well as a rear luggage shelf. They’re joined by a chrome steering wheel, circular gauges, and a radio.

The listing notes the Chrysler has been modified and updated multiple times over the years. Besides the occasional paint job, it was outfitted with a 1955 FirePower Hemi engine which still resides under the hood.

The listing goes on to say the latest restoration remains in “good order.” However, it notes there are some issues including with the paint.

That being said, the car looks fantastic and is one of a kind. Given this, it’s not surprising to learn the model is expected to fetch between $500,000 – $650,000 (€460,000 – €600,000 / £390,000 – £500,000).
