- Dodge is putting the final touches on the new Charger Daytona.
- Electric Charger offers impressive power (up to 670 hp) in R/T and Scat Pack trims.
- Inline-six engine option (420-550 hp) available for fans of combustion.
While many remain unconvinced by Dodge’s decision to sell the next-generation Charger as an EV or with an inline-six, rather than a V8, the carmaker is powering ahead with the development, and a lovely two-door prototype was recently filmed up close by a YouTuber.
As Dodge has already unveiled the new muscle car in full, there’s no need to bother with camouflage. However, this means we can spot some fit and finish issues with the car, including the fact that the tailgate lights don’t perfectly align with the other half of the lights. We suspect Dodge will iron this out before production begins.

On the street, we think the new Charger Daytona looks quite nice. The exterior design has a lovely mixture of modern and retro elements, just like the outgoing Challenger, although we think the rear overhang is a little too long. The special ‘R-Wing’ up front is also visible, as is a set of big brakes at the front and rear, as well as carbon fiber wing mirrors.
Dodge promises a dizzying array of powertrain options for the new Charger Daytona. Sitting at the base of the EV range at launch will be the R/T, pumping out an impressive 496 hp and 404 lb-ft (548 Nm) of torque and fitted as standard with the 40 hp Stage 1 upgrade kit. The most potent EV version will be the Scat Pack, also set to be initially sold as standard with the 80 hp Stage 2 kit, resulting in a combined 670 hp and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm).
Fortunately for fans of combustion, the new Charger will be offered with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six offered in two forms. The base R/T will be good for 420 hp, while the Sixpack H.O. gets an impressive 550 hp. It remains to be seen if Dodge will offer legitimate successors to the Charger/Challenger Hellcat and Demon models.
