The Chevrolet Camaro has rolled into the history books, but a custom conversion of the fifth-generation model brings it back on our radar. This muscle car has been transformed into a pickup truck, serving as an unconventional, modern-day reinterpretation of the popular Chevrolet El Camino from the ’60s.

The L Camaro, as it’s called, is a one-off build by Alabama-based Impatient Creations. Based on a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, it features a significantly redesigned rear end, complete with a functional bed and tailgate.

The L Camaro surfaced on Reddit threads recently, prompting us to dig deeper into this uniquely weird creation. Thankfully, a YouTube video by ScottieDTV details the entire build process. It all started with a client’s request, inspired by Australian utes, who wanted something similar for his driveway in the U.S.

Following the initial sketching phase, Impatient Creations chopped the rear end of the donor vehicle and stretched the rear overhang to accommodate a rear bed. The rear fenders mimic the sharp surfacing of the Camaro’s factory bodywork, complete with a pair of vertical taillights at the back.

The finished pickup was exhibited at the 2024 World of Wheels Custom Car Show, held in Birmingham earlier this year. Admittedly, proportions are not the strongest point of this custom truck. Still, a lot of work went into shaping the bespoke body panels, which are entirely made of metal. The interior has also been modified, with a storage shelf replacing the rear seats of the muscle car.

The American ute retains the stock underpinnings of the Camaro SS, including the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with 426 hp (318 kW / 432 PS). Just like the original muscle car, power is transmitted to the rear axle via a six-speed manual transmission.

After a few appearances at auto shows, the L Camaro has now been unleashed on the streets, with the owner using it as a proper pickup truck. Many social media users commented that the conversion would look much nicer with a longer wheelbase, which would certainly help with proportions. Another cool addition would be a pair of small side windows, as seen in the original sketch, making it look more like a factory-spec ute
