• Spy photographers have snapped the facelifted Genesis GV60 testing in Germany.
  • Revised electric crossover gets a larger battery and a new front bumper that appeared in a promo video.
  • Highlight of mid-life refresh will be the new GV60 Magma hero model, which borrows hardware from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N.

Genesis is working on a high-performance GV60 Magma that borrows all the tasty hardware from sister company Hyundai’s fantastic Ioniq 5 N. And if this new GV60 hot rod is half as much fun as the N, it’s going to swallow up so much limelight, there might not be much left for the regular facelifted GV60s the brand also plans to launch around the same time.

It’s the non-Magma car you can see in these pictures, our spy photo team having grabbed a few frames while the prototype was testing in Germany. We’ve scooped it before wearing a similar disguise but that doesn’t mean we don’t know what’s going on under all that camo.

The new front bumper’s boxier shape and more vertical side air intake visible through the disguise perfectly matches the look of a facelifted GV60 glimpsed in a promo video Genesis released earlier in the year – and then quickly deleted. And though this prototype’s headlights are similar to the current crossover’s, each lamp unit is now made up of two rows of seven LED cubes, instead of two rows of five.

One of the GV60’s greatest assets, besides its handsome teardrop styling, is its interior. The storage space is great and the weird crystal sphere gear selector that rotates when the car powers up prevents it feeling like a generic EV.

All of that, and the twin 12.3-inch screens, will be probably be carried over, though with extra technology added that we hope includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto this time – the current car requires a wire.

Facelifted Genesis GV60 Risks Being Overshadowed By Hot Magma Version

The GV60’s Ioniq 5 cousin shares the same E-GMP platform (as does Kia’s EV6) and was recently facelifted. The fact that the Ioniq didn’t receive any big powertrain changes suggests to us that the Genesis won’t either, beyond the addition of the Magma version, which should have at least as much power as the 641 hp (650 PS) Ioniq 5 N.

But even if the current 225 hp (228 PS), 314 hp (318 PS) and 429 hp (435 PS) motor setups are transferred to the refreshed GV60 unchanged, they’ll be mated to a bigger, 84 kWh battery, mirroring the Ioniq’s upgrade from 77 kWh.
