• Ford offers a $995 performance upgrade for the Mach-E GT, boosting torque by 100 lb-ft.
  • The extra oomph allows the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds.
  • The upgrade appears to be a one-time option, unlike Mercedes’ monthly, annual, and lifetime plans.

If you have a need for speed, you’d probably bypass the Ford Mustang Mach-E and get the real thing. However, if you didn’t, you might be able to eke out a little more performance.

Ford has announced the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT can get a “performance upgrade” at the time of purchase or after the fact. It “combines innovative powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms” with an extra 100 lb-ft (135 Nm) of torque.

Ford says this enables the electric crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and run the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph (183 km/h). Those are pretty impressive numbers and Ford notes the upgrades make the Mach-E GT faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance. Of course, they failed to mention the Mach-E GT starts at $54,995 – before the upgrade – while the Tesla begins at $51,490.

Ford didn’t mention the price of the upgrade, but the video suggests it costs $995 before taxes. That sounds pretty so-so as Mercedes EQE customers can get an extra 60 hp (45 kW / 61 PS) for $60 per month, $600 per year, or $1,950 for the lifetime of the vehicle. Likewise, EQS owners can unlock an additional 80 hp (60 kW / 81 PS) for $90 per month, $900 per year, or $2,950 for life.

While those prices aren’t cheap, the flexibility is interesting and allows customers to try out the extra performance before spending big bucks. It would have been nice if Ford had done something similar.
