• The bespoke racing van beat the Subaru WRX STI ‘Project Midnight’ by over 2 seconds.
  • Last year, the car ran at the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting a time of 8 minutes and 47.682 seconds.
  • Other cars competing in the Shootout included the Czinger 21C and Travis Pastrana’s ‘Project Huckster’ Subaru.

The Ford SuperVan 4.2 has been crowned the king of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed with the fastest time up the famed hill climb, set at 43.98 seconds during the Sunday Shootout.

Ford’s behemoth of an EV has been participating in motorsport events throughout much of 2023 and 2024, even making appearances in Australia and last year, running at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting a time of 8 minutes and 47.682 seconds.

It looked massively oversized while competing at Goodwood throughout the weekend, but with Romain Dumas behind the wheel, it beat every other car, aiming to set the quickest run. While quick, that time is well behind Dumas’s personal best of 39.9 seconds set behind the wheel of the VW ID.R, and the outright record of 39.08 seconds set by the McMurty Spierling in 2022.

The SuperVan 4.2 is powered by three electric motors that combine to produce 1,400 hp, and while the EV weighs a portly 4,400 lbs (1,995 kg), it produces huge amounts of downforce, helping it take some of Goodwood’s corners at dizzying speeds.

Several other impressive cars competed in the Sunday Shootout, looking to set the fastest time. These included a Ford Puma WRC car, a modified Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R, and the American-made Czinger 21C, which set a time of 48.83 seconds.

Subaru’s Project Midnight WRX STI was the closest rival to the SuperVan 4.2. It rocks a 2.0-liter flat-four with 670 hp and 680 lb-ft (920 Nm) of torque, and in qualifying for the shootout, it set a best time at 45.1 seconds. At the time of the Shootout, the best it could muster up was a 46.07 second time. That’s still an impressive feat and two seconds quicker than a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
