- A report claims that Tesla’s Robotaxi reveal is going to be two full months late.
- Tesla stock prices had climbed in recent days as the reveal on August 8th drew closer.
- Now, they’re down almost ten percent and rival brands are seeing an uptick in value.
Just under a month away from what Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised would be the reveal for the Tesla Robotaxi, plans are rumored to have changed. According to a new report, the reveal is now set for October in order to give teams more time to build more cars. Some of the team is even changing design elements this late in the game.
Musk has been touting a future of Tesla robotaxis for years. He’s been promising self-driving technology for even longer. It’s reasonable then that many were excited when he announced in April that Tesla would finally unveil its robotaxi on August 8th.

According to Bloomberg, insiders say that date is going to come and go with no such reveal. Evidently, Tesla has pushed the event back to October though no specific day in the month is known.
“The roughly two-month delay has been communicated internally,” said the people cited in the report, who requested anonymity because the information hadn’t been publicly announced. The design team was told this week to rework certain elements of the car, one of the people said,” according to the report.
As of this writing, neither Musk nor Tesla has said anything about the change in plans. The CEO did take the time to call mainstream media a “propaganda machine” on his social media platform X but didn’t mention robotaxi whatsoever.
The stock market seems to believe the report though and Tesla shares fell by some 8 percent on Thursday. On the flip side, Lyft saw shares jump 4.6 percent while Uber saw a 6.1 percent boost after the news. Today, Tesla stock is back up by a little over three percent.
As is obvious from its history, delays are nothing new with Tesla. At the same time, if the team is still willing to rework design elements this late in the game it could be an indication that we’re still a very long way off from having a production version of the Tesla robotaxi.
