- MG’s new electric model is a rebadged Baojun Cloud, launching soon in India.
- The Indian MG EV rivals Tata Nexo and Mahindra XUV400, starting under $24,000.
- This EV offers up to 286 miles of range with either 37.9 kWh or 50.6 kWh battery options.
MG has teased a new fully electric model ahead of its imminent debut in India. Described as an “intelligent CUV,” the EV appears to be a rebadged version of the Baojun Cloud, which has been on sale in China since 2023.
The dark teasers can’t mask the Chinese origins of the zero-emission model, which resembles a blend of a small hatchback and a minivan. Styling is expected to carry over from the Baojun Cloud—known as the Wuling Cloud EV in Indonesia—with MG’s modifications limited to new emblems on the front bumper and tailgate.

All three models measure 4,295 mm (191.1 inches) long, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm (106.3 inches). This makes them 129 mm (5.1 inches) longer than the Chevrolet Bolt, and only 10 mm (0.4 inches) shorter than the Chevrolet Bolt EUV.
Despite its compact footprint, the minivan-style proportions promise a spacious cabin with a five-seat layout and a large boot. Interior highlights include a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, plush diamond-patterned seats, and a full suite of ADAS. However, it’s unclear how much of this technology will be included in the Indian-spec MG.

The Chinese model comes with battery options of 37.9 kWh or 50.6 kWh, providing ranges of up to 360 km (224 miles) or 460 km (286 miles), respectively. Both versions are powered by a single electric motor producing 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS), driving the front wheels. It remains to be seen if the MG-branded EV will feature different specifications.
The Baojun Cloud is manufactured in China by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture. MG is fully owned by SAIC, which is how the British brand got access to the Chinese EV. Autocar India reports that pricing in India could start below Rs 20 lakh ($23,884), making it a direct competitor to the Tata Nexo EV and Mahindra XUV400 electric SUVs.
MG first entered the Indian market in 2019 with the MG Hector SUV, a rebadged Baojun 530/Wuling Almaz. Similarly, the entry-level MG Comet EV, which debuted in 2023, is essentially a rebadged Wuling Air.
