• The Mitsubishi Triton Black Edition expands the truck’s lineup in Thailand.
  • The new trim is based on the Ultra, adding gloss black accents all around the bodywork.
  • The Black Edition is exclusively offered with rear-wheel-drive and an automatic gearbox.

Black edition models have become almost an old cliché in the automotive world, but people seem to love them very much, so why not give them what they want? Mitsubishi joins the dark side with the latest edition of the Triton pickup truck.

Typically, automakers reserve dark-themed trims for the later stages of a vehicle’s lifecycle. But Mitsubishi has bucked this trend with the new Triton Black Edition. The new version distinguishes itself from the Ultra trim it’s based on with a front grille and Dynamic Shield finished in gloss black.

The black theme extends to the mirror caps, door handles, tailgate handle, and 18-inch alloy wheels. To offset the monochromatic look, Mitsubishi designers incorporated smoked titanium accents on the side steps and rear bumper.

The Black Edition is exclusively available in Graphite Grey or White Diamond. Inside, a black cabin with contrasting white stitching dominates, though the light-colored headliner detracts from the overall dark theme. Standard features include a 9-inch infotainment system and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Powering the Black Edition is a mid-spec version of the 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine, with 181 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. The Black Edition is offered exclusively with a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Off-road enthusiasts seeking the blacked-out look will have to forgo the available four-wheel drive systems offered on other trims, including the top-tier Athlete.

The Mitsubishi Triton Black Edition is now available in Thailand with a starting price of 1,027,000 Thai Baht ($28,409). While currently exclusive to the Thai market, there’s potential for the Black Edition to expand the Triton/L200 lineup globally in the near future.
