• The Black Edition is based on the Ford Ranger XL Bi-Turbo 4×4, adding black visuals and more kit.
  • Despite the added features, the Black Edition is cheaper than the standard XL.
  • Availability of the Ford Ranger Black Edition is limited to 1,500 units for Australian buyers.

While the Ford Ranger remains a best seller Down Under, there’s always room for a special edition to improve sales. Enter the Ranger Black Edition, a new trim with a limited production of 1,500 units, enhancing the popular workhorse with sleek, dark visuals.

The Black Edition of the Ford Ranger deviates from using the flagship Raptor or high-spec Platinum trims as its base, instead building upon the work-focused Ford Ranger XL Bi-Turbo 4×4. Ford describes this new offering as catering to ‘retail and small business customers’ seeking a ‘value-for-money truck’ with an appealing aesthetic.

The Black Edition inherits the basic-looking XL’s halogen headlights and body-colored bumpers, while upgrading to new black 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Its grille features Asphalt Black finish with Bolder Grey inserts.

These features are complemented by matching side steps and a rear sports bar, enhancing the truck’s rugged and capable appearance. Additionally, the Ranger is equipped with a drop-in bedliner, a 12V outlet, and a cargo management system at the rear, designed to facilitate the lives of professionals.

New Ford Ranger Black Edition Brings Dark Style To Aussie Workhorse

There are no changes under the hood, with the bi-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 207 hp (154 kW / 209 PS) and 500 Nm (370 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels exclusively via a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a 4WD system.

The drive-away price of the Ford Ranger Black Edition starts at AU$ 57,990 (equal to US$38,736 at current exchange rates) in Australia, when specified with the pictured Arctic White exterior shade. This makes it cheaper than the XL it is based on, despite the extra features and the limited availability of 1,500 units.

Customers opting for a color other than white for their Black Edition can choose the ‘Prestige Paint’ option for AU$700 (US$468). Additional options include a manual roller shutter and a towing pack.
