- Nissan brings Nismo back to Europe with the Ariya Nismo electric SUV.
- Details on the Euro-spec model are sparse, but the Japanese version features two powertrains.
- Nismo is also gearing up to introduce another new model on July 18 in Japan.
Nissan’s European lineup is about as fun as a prostate examine as it largely consists of crossovers and vans. However, the company has announced Nismo is making a comeback.
Before you get too excited, Europe isn’t getting the Z Nismo. Instead, the company is bringing the new Ariya Nismo to the old continent.

The automaker didn’t say much about the Euro-spec crossover, but claimed it will have “finely tuned brake pads” as well as a “fine-tuned e-4ORCE system for better power and torque distribution to the wheels.” Besides expressing an undying love for the word “tuned,” Nissan said the model will have a black interior with spicy red accents as well as Nismo seats that are “reminiscent [of] Formula E cars.”
While that’s saying a lot without saying much of anything, the Ariya Nismo was launched in Japan earlier this year with two different powertrains. The entry-level model has a 66 kWh battery pack as well as a dual-motor all-wheel drive system producing 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. Customers can also get a variant with a 91 kWh battery as well as an increased output of 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque.
We can expect to learn more about the European model later this year, but the automaker confirmed the Nismo variant will be offered in all countries where the Ariya is currently available.
New NISMO hatch to debut on July 18
In other Nismo news, the company teased an upcoming model that will be introduced in Japan on July 18. The image appears to show a high-performance hatchback and this means we’re probably looking at an updated Note Aura Nismo.
While that remains unconfirmed, the standard Note Aura received a facelift earlier this year so it seems like the perfect time to introduce an updated Nismo variant.
