• The V12-powered Pagani Utopia just received a Roadster variant.
  • The hypercar tips the scales at 1,280 kg (2,822 pounds), just like the coupe.
  • Pagani will build just 130 copies, starting at €3.1M ($3.4M) before taxes.

Pagani took the wraps off its latest creation, the Utopia Roadster. The new topless version of the V12-powered hypercar offers both a hardtop and a soft top, and, according to Pagani, manages this without adding any weight compared to the coupe.

Contrary to the typical weight penalty associated with convertibles, the Pagani Utopia Roadster matches its coupe sibling’s weight of 1,280 kg (2,822 pounds). This feat is attributed to the simultaneous development of both body styles, which share the same monocoque chassis and performance specifications.

The removable hardtop can’t be stored inside the vehicle when not in use, but fear not; the soft top fits neatly into a suitcase mounted behind the two seats. Owners also have access to a set of leather-covered suitcases made of carbon, which can be stored in special compartments next to the V12.

Aside from the redesigned roof, the Utopia Roadster mirrors the styling of the Coupe, retaining the sculpted rear deck and butterfly doors. Inside, Pagani’s designers added fresh floor mats with a texture reminiscent of an outboard boat. The key has also been updated, adopting the open-top silhouette of the vehicle.

Pagani offers a wide range of customization options for the Utopia Roadster, including the optional Sport Pack configuration, which is already available for the coupe. The display car features this pack, finished in exposed carbon Habanero Red, with Aeroblade carbon deflectors on the wheels.

The AMG-sourced twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 produces 852 hp (635 kW / 864 PS) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque, without any kind of electrical assistance. Just as with the closed-roof Utopia, power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed Xtrac gearbox, available in automatic or manual, aided by an electronic differential.

The hypercar also boasts active suspension and an innovative sensor system called Pirelli Cyber Tyre. This tech is compatible with Pirelli P Zero Corsa, Winter, and Trofeo RS tires, sending information from the tires to the vehicle’s stability and traction control systems.

The Pagani Utopia Roadster will make its first public outing during the Monterey Car Week. Only 130 units will be produced, each starting at €3.1 million (equal to about S$3.4million at current exchange rates) before taxes.
