• The Cadillac Lyriq is up in sales 465 percent when compared to last year.
  • At the same time, every other model in the lineup is suffering from a serious drop in sales.
  • Aside from the Escalade, the rest of the brand is at least 10 percent below last year’s sales figures.

General Motors is a big company and over all of its brands, it’s about even in terms of US sales this year. Cadillac, one of those brands, is down 1.7 percent this year so far when compared to the first six months of 2023.

That figure doesn’t come close to telling the whole story of what’s going on within the marquee though. Every model is down quite a lot aside from the all-electric Lyriq.

The automotive market might be seeing a downturn on electric vehicles in general but one wouldn’t know that looking at the Lyriq. It’s up 465 percent year over year and 441 percent up in June over the same month in 2023. Granted, Cadillac only sold 2,316 of them last year. This huge sales boost (to 13,904) isn’t entirely due to demand from customers.

At the same time, there’s no question that the Lyriq is partially responsible for Cadillac’s overall sales numbers looking the way they do. In fact, the electric crossover is doing better than the XT4, the XT5, and the XT6. The smallest of those three is down 19.9 percent YOY. The XT5 is down 13.7 percent, and the XT6 is 10.2 percent down compared to last year through the first six months of 2024. Even the wildly iconic Escalade is down 7.6 percent.

None of those models are struggling like the CT4 and CT5, sadly. Despite being some of the best sedans on sale today, they’re down 35.6 percent and 31.3 percent respectively YOY. For now, the Escalade continues to lead the brand with 19,204 sales this year, with the Lyriq taking home the silver medal so far. The XT5 is currently third.

There’s really no way to look at the numbers without coming away at least a little impressed with the Lyriq compared to other GM vehicles. It has outsold the Blazer EV and Equinox EV combined so far.
