VW has released photos of the new ID.UNYX, the latest all-electric SUV for the Chinese market expected to be launched later this month.

We were provided with our first look at the ID.UNYX back in March thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The SUV is based on the Cupra Tavascan and is the first model in VW’s new ID.UX series, which will include four other EVs by 2027. The new ID.UNYX will be produced by Volkswagen Anhui, the carmaker’s joint venture with JAC.

Local media reports the ID.UNYX is 4,663 mm (183.5 inches) long, 1,860 mm (73.2 inches) wide, and stands 1,610 mm (63.3 inches) tall with a 2,766 mm (108.9 inches) wheelbase. The overall shape is very similar to the Tavascan, but as you’d expect, VW has made a few revisions to make it look more like a VW ID family member. As such, the front fascia features a pair of sharp headlights with an LED light bar connecting them.

Showcased here in a lovely shade of grey, the EV features gloss black elements across the front fascia, and a gold-and-black VW badge. Like the Tavascan, the ID.UNYX rocks gloss black A-pillars, black rocker panels, and a black rear diffuser. A pair of LED taillights is found at the rear with an intricate lighting signature and a light bar.

All versions of the ID.UNYX will be powered by an 82.4 kWh battery pack from CATL. Entry-level models will have a single electric motor at the rear with 228 hp and flagship versions will have a dual-motor setup with a 228 hp motor out back and a 107 hp motor up front, resulting in a combined 335 hp. The base model will be good for 385 miles (621 km) on a charge, while the dual-motor will have a range of 351 miles (565 km), according to the optimistic Chinese testing cycle.

Local pricing details have yet to be announced. It’s unlikely the ID.UNYX, or future models from the ID.UX family, will be sold outside of China as VW describes it as a “sub-brand for China.”
