• A BMW-driving woman in Florida crashed into a Popeyes fast-food restaurant.
  • Initially, she asked bystanders to help her flee the scene but ended up waiting for police to arrive.
  • Officers cited her but didn’t find any signs that she was driving under the influence.

It’s easy to understand someone having a sense of anxiety or even panic after crashing into a building but in the case of one Florida woman, sense appears to have left her thoughts entirely.

After losing control of her BMW convertible she drove up onto an embankment, over a sidewalk, and into a Popeyes. Then, she asked the bystanders who were actively filming her to help her commit a crime by fleeing the scene.

The crash happened on July 14 and video of the incident begins as the woman is exiting her car. “Can you get me out of here, please? I can’t get charged with that,” she is heard saying to those with the cameras. “I can’t go to jail, I can’t go to jail. I won’t last there, you know?” In a turn of events that can only be explained as baffling, the individuals encourage her to leave and even offer to give her a ride.

The Miami Police Department hasn’t confirmed the woman’s name but has shed light on some of the details here. According to Law & Crime, “the female driver was still on scene during officers arrival.” Whether or not she intentionally stuck around or just hadn’t made her escape is unclear.

The authorities seemingly cleared her of DUI or DWI suspicion too.

“The officers analyzed the female in an effort to identify signs of intoxication which were not present to include the smell of alcohol/drugs in or around the vehicle,” they say. Ultimately, it appears as the surrounding circumstances kept this woman out of jail.

Police believe the road was wet and might have played a role in the crash. In addition, they confirm that nobody was injured which means that this could simply be a single-vehicle crash and little else.

For now, the authorities cited her for driving too fast for conditions and careless driving. They’re still investigating the situation and could potentially add additional charges. Had she run the whole accident could’ve become a much bigger deal.
