GMC introduced the third-generation of the Terrain. The brand’s entry-level SUV offering combines a more stylish exterior with modern safety and technology features inside the cabin.

The 2025 GMC Terrain will be initially available in the Elevation trim. The off-road capable AT4 and the luxurious Denali flagship will follow next year, just in time for the 2026 MY.

GMC says that the styling of the new Terrain was inspired by trucks, bringing it more in line with the rest of its lineup. The front end is characterised by the aggressive headlights, flanking a large grille and a more assertive bumper. The tail has also been redesigned with sharper taillights and modern surfacing. The AT4 and Denali trims feature animated LED graphics on the lightning units. Furthermore, the AT4 sits higher, rides on all-terrain tires, and features metal underbody protection.

The profile looks nearly identical to the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, as the two SUVs share a portion of their sheet metal, besides riding on the same underpinnings. The GMC is distinguished by the taller C-pillar which connects to the roof, and the different wheels. The latter measure 17 inches on the Elevation trim, and 19 or 20 inches in the Denali. The color palette has been further enhanced with the addition of a two-tone roof option, available in black or gray.

The interior has been overhauled, with a new digital cockpit comprising an 11-inch instrument cluster and a portrait-oriented 15-inch touchscreen for the infotainment. These are standard equipment in all trims, as with the Google Assistant. Other available features include an HD Surround Vision camera offering up to eight views, a digital rearview mirror, a wireless charger, a 5G WiFi hotspot, and the AutoSense power liftgate.

In terms of safety, all GMC Terrains come standard with more than 15 ADAS, including Blind Zone Steering Assist, Side Bicyclist Alert, and Rear Cross Traffic Braking. Still, the SUV doesn’t get the more sophisticated Super Cruise system which is available in larger GM offerings.

As with the mechanically-related Chevrolet Equinox, all trims of the GMC Terrain are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 175 hp (131 kW / 177 PS) and 203 lb-ft (275 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, although a FWD option is expected in the future.

Both the AT4 and Denali come standard with AWD and Hill Descent Control. As for the chassis, the AT4 features lifted suspension to go with the all-terrain tires, while the Denali sports comfort-focused “Smart Frequency Dampers”.

The 2025 GMC Terrain Elevation will launch in late 2024, with the AT4 and Denali following in 2025. Pricing will be announced closer to the market launch. Besides the Terrain, GMC is almost ready to unveil the updated Yukon, which has already appeared in official teasers announcing its expansion to Australia and China.
