- Maserati has announced plans to introduce a hardcore MC20 on August 16.
- The model draws inspiration from the GT2 race car and features a host of upgrades.
- Despite the focus on performance, the company suggested the car will be comfortable and street legal.
Monterey Car Week will be jam-packed with debuts and we can add one more to that list as Maserati has announced plans to unveil a new “super sports car.” It will be introduced on August 16 at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
The company isn’t saying much at this point, but confirmed the model is an “evolution of the MC20” and will inherit the spirit of the GT2 race car. As a result, it’s not surprising to see front fender vents and a carbon fiber splitter. After cranking up the brightness, we can also get a glimpse of blue brake calipers and what appears to be a ventilated hood.

That’s not much to go on, but Maserati laid on the marketing hyperbole pretty thick. They said the car is “state of the art” and will have “innovative technological solutions” as well as “impressive aerodynamic performance, typical of the fastest and most exciting racing cars.” They went onto describe the mystery model as a “one-of-a-kind car with an unmistakable aesthetic, defined by a wide range of customization options.”
While Maserati was coy on specifics, they suggested the car is a street legal production model. They also said it will have “details typical of a racing car without sacrificing the comfort and hallmarks of road models.”
We’ll learn full details later this month, but the standard MC20 has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 developing 621 hp (463 kW / 630 PS) and 538 lb-ft (730 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds, before hitting a top speed in excess of 202 mph (325 km/h).
