- Skoda’s entry-level SUV for the Indian market has been named Kylaq.
- The new model will be smaller than the Kushaq, measuring under 4 m long.
- It will ride on the MQB A0 IN architecture, likely powered by a 1.0 TSI engine.
Skoda’s upcoming small SUV for the Indian market has a name: Kylaq, chosen through online voting. The Kylaq will slot below the Indian-built Kushaq, becoming the new entry-level model in VW Group brand’s local lineup, both in size and price.
Originally teased in February 2024 with a front-end sketch, the Skoda Kylaq now reveals its profile in the latest teaser, showcasing a familiar silhouette and roof rails. This SUV will be the first Indian model to sport Skoda’s Modern Solid design language, highlighted by its distinct LED lighting signature.

Earlier spy shots from India confirmed that the Kylaq will have a very compact footprint, a short rear overhang and split LED headlights. With a sub-4m (157.5 inches) length, it will be Skoda’s smallest offering worldwide, even more compact than the 4,225 mm (166 inches) Kushaq, the 4,108 mm (161.7 inches) Fabia, and the 4.1 m (161.4 inches) Epiq EV.
The new model will be built on the locally-developed MQB A0 IN platform, the same architecture that underpins the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun SUVs, as well as the Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus sedans. Under the hood, it’s expected to house a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, producing 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS). Skoda will likely offer a choice between a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, both driving power to the front wheels.
SKODA KYLAQ
Skoda claims that over 200,000 people participated in the social media campaign, helping it choose a name for its new model. The Kylaq – originating from the Sanskrit word for crystal – was chosen between the 10 finalists. Predictably, all of them started with K and ended with Q, in line with Skoda’s naming strategy for ICE-powered SUVs including the Kushaq, Kamiq, Karoq, and Kodiaq.
The debut and market launch of the Skoda Kylaq is scheduled for 2025. At the moment it is not clear if the urban SUV will be offered in other markets outside India. Local rivals include the likes of the Citroen New C3, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Suzuki Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3XO, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.
