• Porsche unveiled a special 993-based Speedster, created by the Sonderwunsch division.
  • The one-off was commissioned by a collector who was heavily involved with the design.
  • This is the third factory-built example of a 993 Speedster in existence.

Porsche flexed its Sonderwunsch program at the 2024 Monterey Car Week with a stunning 993-based Speedster. This one-off creation was commissioned by a die-hard Porsche enthusiast and collector, crafted to fill the final gap in his “extensive” Speedster collection.

While Porsche rolled out Speedster versions of the G-Series and 964 models, the 993 never got the same treatment—at least officially. In reality, only two 993 Speedsters ever left Stuttgart: a green one built in 1995 for Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s 60th birthday and a silver one crafted in 2001 for comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

Now, a third rarity joins the ranks: a yellow 993 Speedster, owned by Italian-born architect and industrial designer Luca Trazzi.

This factory one-off, crafted to order by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, stands apart with unique design and technical components that set it apart from its predecessors. The project began with a 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, undergoing a complete transformation that included a redesigned roof, a reworked tail, and a fully overhauled interior.

Thanks to the customer’s background, he was “intensively involved” in the development process, even bringing his own drafts and sketches to the table.

The model features a one-of-a-kind rear cover with signature bumps, personally designed by the customer. It’s complemented by a reworked canvas roof and a shorter windshield, giving it that quintessential Speedster stance. Additional custom touches include retro-inspired conical mirrors and a Turbo-style body kit, complete with a distinctive front bumper, side skirts, and rear quarter panels.

Porsche’s designers worked their magic on the lighting, incorporating modern four-point LEDs into the tinted headlights and reinterpreting the full-width taillights and indicators. The Speedster sits on 18-inch Turbo wheels, finished in black with striking yellow pinstripes. The donor vehicle was originally yellow, but the conversion now boasts a vibrant Otto Yellow paint, custom-developed for the client and named after his dog.

The cabin is bathed in black leather with contrasting yellow stitching, featuring hand-sewn checkered patterns on the seats. This bespoke treatment extends to the luggage compartment and the matching touring bag. The interior also sports carbon fiber inserts, including the seatbacks and the illuminated door sills.

Even the power window switches received bespoke symbols with the Speedster silhouette, alongside a one-off badge on the dashboard and Speedster embroidery on the headrests. Finally, the Porsche Classic Communication Management infotainment combines a classic look with navigation and Apple CarPlay compatibility.

An extensive development program like this couldn’t ignore the underpinnings. Porsche went all out, sourcing the engine, steering, and brakes from the 911 Carrera RS—a lightweight legend from 1994 and 1995. At its heart is a naturally aspirated, air-cooled 3.8-liter flat-six cranking out around 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS). Power hits the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

The Porsche 993 Speedster is set to make its debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Monterey. After the event, this one-of-a-kind creation will be shipped to Europe, where its owner will finally take delivery. As for the price? Porsche is keeping that under wraps.
