- Spy photographers have snapped a prototype of what is believed to be the next-generation Range Rover Velar.
- The heavily camouflaged crossover appears to have a sporty, but evolutionary design.
- The model will ride on the EMA platform and a launch is scheduled for 2025.
Spy photographers recently snapped the upcoming Range Rover Electric and it doesn’t rock the boat as it looks virtually identical to its ICE-powered counterpart. That won’t be the case with the redesigned Range Rover Velar as it’s getting a sporty makeover.
Recently spied undergoing testing, the prototype is heavily disguised but appears more aggressive than its predecessor. Details are hard to make out, but we can see sweptback headlights and a front fascia that is largely devoid of intakes, despite mesh screens suggesting otherwise.

The sporty styling continues further back as we can see streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. The camo team also tried to mimic the greenhouse of the Velar, but this just highlights what appears to be a sleeker roof.
Bigger changes occur out back as the license plate recess has been moved from the liftgate to the bumper. There isn’t much else to see, but we can get a glimpse of the taillights as well as what may be a ‘fake’ rear window.
Elsewhere, there are sizable wheels and block-like accents to throw people off. However, it appears we can expect an evolutionary and slightly sportier design.
Little is known about the model at this point but, last year, JLR announced their Halewood plant would become an all‑electric production facility and stated their next-generation medium‑size SUV architecture, known as the electrified modular architecture (EMA), would be EV-only. At the time, the automaker said “The first of its next generation medium‑size modern luxury SUVs will be an all‑electric model from the Range Rover family, launching in 2025 and built at Halewood.”
