• The new model will be based on a bespoke platform and will go against the Red Bull RB17.
  • Mate Rimac has not provided details about the powertrain, but it should be all-electric.
  • A reveal could come before the end of the year.

It’s only been a few days since Rimac unveiled the track-focused Nevera R in California and already, company boss and founder Mate Rimac has revealed they are working on building the ultimate track car.

Unlike some other brands competing in the hypercar space, Rimac is yet to venture into the world of non-street legal track models, preferring to create the ultimate all-electric hypercar and even develop an innovative robotaxi. Mate revealed that’ll soon change, and the brand’s first track model will offer performance beyond current Le Mans racers and even Formula 1 cars.

“Now we have decided to not just push the limits in road cars, but also in racing on track,” he told Motor1. “So we are building a track car, a single-seater that’s going to be faster than any race car for most tracks. Faster than Formula 1, faster than Le Mans.”

Many details about this compelling new model remain shrouded in mystery, but Mate Rimac said the car will be based on a bespoke platform and have a canopy-style cockpit. Development of the model appears to be well underway as Mate revealed it will “probably” be unveiled this year before making its track debut in 2025.

“Safety is there but everything else? No rules,” he added. “[It will go] beyond Formula 1 or LMP rules.”

It’s unclear how many examples the Croatian brand intends to build but Mate said it will seek to break lap records with the new car.

Just a month ago, Red Bull shook up the track-only hypercar market with the Adrian Newey-designed RB17. Red Bull’s rocketship is powered by a high-revving naturally-aspirated V10 supported by a hybrid system and it too should be capable of lap times rivaling a modern F1 car. Sounds like some competition from the Croatians is just around the corner.
