Canadians and Mexicans who placed a reservation for the Tesla Cybertruck all those years ago can now finally configure their vehicles and finalize their orders The local launches of the electric pickup come nine months after deliveries started in the U.S. market.
A key reason why the Cybertruck has been so slow to launch in Canada comes down to Transport Canada. According to reports, the agency has taken its sweet time approving the truck for sale and, in July, had to grant it an exemption to legalize its advanced steer-by-wire system. This exemption will be good for five years.

Shoppers in Canada or Mexico who placed a reservation for the new Tesla can order either the All-Wheel Drive version or the flagship Foundation Series CyberBeast.
Mexican pricing details have yet to be announced. However, emails sent to customers in Canada reveal the AWD Cybertruck will start at CAD$137,990 (~$100,300) while the tri-motor Foundation Series CyberBeast is priced from an eye-watering CAD$165,990 (~$120,600). These figures are before applicable taxes and fees.
Buyers in Canada could be in for some added sticker shock due to the country’s Federal Luxury Tax. This tax was introduced in 2022 for vehicles priced above CAD$100,000 (~$72,600) and adds either 10% or 20% of the amount exceeding six figures. Theoretically, this means the AWD Cybertruck is hit with CAD$8,173.20 (~$6,000) in luxury tax, while that figure jumps to CAD$13,773.20 (~$10,000) for the CyberBeast.
While Tesla’s Canadian pricing details include these taxes, the carmaker says it’s working to get all Cybertrucks exempted as even the lightest version weighs 8,834 lbs or 4,007 kg, over the maximum 8,501 lbs (3,856 kg) for vehicles to be hit with the luxury tax.
