- The recall impacts 206 vehicles in the U.S. and a further 12 in Canada.
- The screw holding the brake pedal to the booster could completely loosen.
Owners of 2019 Audi E-Tron Quattro models across the United States and Canada are being urged to bring their electric SUVs to a dealership after it was revealed they have brake pedals that could detach from the brake booster.
A recall notice reveals that a deviation in the screwdriving station at a supplier means the input rod of the brake pedal may not be properly connected to the operating rod on the brake booster. Audi says it’s possible the screw could completely loosen, separating the pedal from the booster and meaning the only way to slow down the EV would be to use the emergency brake.

That’s a frightening thought, and Audi is reminding owners to look at the manual for information on how to use the emergency brake, just in case their brake pedal falls off.
The recall impacts a total of 206 vehicles in the U.S. that were manufactured between May 28, 2019, and October 23, 2019. A further 12 units in Canada also need to be fixed. Fortunately, Audi is not aware of any injuries, crashes, or fires that have been caused by a brake pedal separation.
Audi’s Product Safety Committee was notified about a potential issue in February when it received 3 customer complaints from Europe about unusual brake noises and brake pedal reset. Audi collected parts from the field and sample parts from production to analyze the issue. It even called in external screwjoint experts. A decision to issue a recall was made on August 12.
Owners are being warned they may notice an unusual noise after applying and releasing the brake pedal or may have a brake pedal that does not return to its original position. If this happens, driving the car before having the issue addressed probably isn’t a wise idea.
Dealerships were alerted to the recall on August 21, while E-Tron owners will be notified on or before October 18. The brake booster on affected vehicles will be replaced free of charge.
