Road trips are fun but recreational vehicles can make them even more enjoyable. Today, van life as it’s called has become a huge trend leading to wildly expensive super-fancy vans and RVs popping up from several companies. This 1974 Mercedes-Benz LA 1113 B Variomobil might be the most hipster version of van life to ever exist.

Under the almost comically boxy shape rests a robust 5.7-liter direct-injected diesel engine mated to a 12-speed gearbox. The listing says this powertrain makes around 187 horsepower, sent to all four wheels. It also has a locking rear differential for getting over challenging terrain.

What makes this vehicle truly special though is the Variomobil body. Inside the living space, you’ll find a kitchen with a sink and gas stove, a pleasant seating area, two Tempur-Pedic mattresses, a bathroom with an integrated shower, a TV, a fridge, and of course, lots and lots of storage.

On the outside of the RV, you’ll find an electric bike rack, additional fuel storage, two different towing hitches, three 180-watt solar panels, an awning, and an outdoor shower. There are even some external speakers that can play music from the stereo system in the RV.

Logistical issues are handled well too. This thing has a 450-liter fuel tank, a 300-liter freshwater tank, a 200-liter waste water tank, and a pair of 11 kg propane tanks. Did we mention it has onboard navigation and wifi too? It’s truly full of everything one or two people might need to go enjoy a weekend off-the-grid.

It’s available now through Collectors Garage but keep in mind that the vehicle is currently in Germany but it’s likely legal to import it to most places. For now, that figure is €149,000 or about $162,000.
