- Many consider the Cybertruck overhyped due to high costs and unfulfilled promises.
- The search is on for the next most overrated car, truck, or SUV on the market.
- Opinions vary, with electric trucks, off-roaders, and the Challenger Demon 170 in the mix.
There’s no question that the Tesla Cybertruck turns heads. Love it or hate it, it’ll probably split opinion for decades to come. Nevertheless, some of the initial shine surrounding the silver-sided truck appears to be wearing off.
The hype seems to be dying down and that brings us to our question of the day. What car, truck, or SUV on the market right now is the most overhyped or overrated bar none?

It was easy to put this on the Cybertruck for a while. It costs way more than initially promised, it doesn’t have the range initially promised, and despite all of its claims of toughness, it tends to get stuck in and on things with some regularity. Sure, some of the technical engineering is impressive but how many people get hyped over 48-volt systems? Not many.
That leaves the door open for other recent vehicles to perhaps be the most overhyped on the market today. With the intention of removing my own bias here, I kicked this topic around with a large group of friends and family and their responses were surprising. One called out all of the electric trucks on the market including not just the Tesla but the GMC Hummer, the Ford Lightning, and the Rivian R1T.
Others threw shade at hardcore off-roaders like the Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota 4Runner. The former can get expensive fast. The interior doesn’t scream high quality either and the cabin tends to be noisy.
Driving it on the road is far from engaging or fun and “the people who own them make it like their whole personality,” said one person. The Toyota might share some of those aspects but frankly, it’ll probably be easier to live with every day.
Finally, there’s no way that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 isn’t part of this discussion. That’s not just me saying it either. Several folks I spoke with responded with that as their answer to this question. It’s easy to see why, too. Sure, it’s the most powerful stock muscle car ever but it’s also equipped with an interior from over a decade ago and costs deep into the six figures.
