Xiaomi chief executive Lei Jun has given the go-ahead for the wild SU7 Ultra to hit production, just a month after the wild sedan was unveiled in prototype guise.

The crazy, track-focused version of the SU7 benefits from a range of bold aerodynamic add-ons, including a huge rear wing, flared fenders, a new front splitter, side skirts, and special racing wheels. It also uses new electric motors made in-house, churning out a monstrous 1,527 hp.

Given how potent the SU7 Ultra is, it comes as no surprise that owners will have to work their way up to explore all of its performance. According to Lei, drivers will need to go through a step-by-step exam to unleash the car, although details about this exam aren’t known. Here’s hoping it will also include different driving modes that limit power.

Xiaomi will open order books for the car in the first quarter of 2025. No pricing details have been announced but it will obviously cost more than the standard model, yet could still easily undercut rivals like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.

One of the most impressive achievements of the SU7 Ultra is not the up to 2,145 kg (4,729 lbs) of downforce, nor that it has more power than a Bugatti Chiron, but that it weighs just 1,900 kg (4,189 lbs). While it’s not lightweight, it does make the SU7 Ultra roughly 465 kg (1,025 lbs) lighter than a Porsche Taycan Turbo GT and around 300 kg (661 lbs) lighter than a Tesla Model S Plaid. The carbon fiber body panels played a key role in this.

Providing the super sedan’s three electric motors with energy is a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery pack. Xiaomi says the SU7 Ultra needs just 1.97 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h), 5.97 seconds to reach 124 mph (200 km/h) and will launch from 0-186 mph (0-300 km/h) in 15 seconds. This year, Xiaomi wants to beat the Taycan Turbo GT’s 7:07.55 lap time at the Nurburgring.
