- The new model will share much of its exterior design with the SU7 sedan.
- Technical specifications are uncertain, but it’s possible a range-extender powertrain could be offered.
- The first deliveries of Xiaomi’s SUV should start in 2025.
Customer deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 started less than five months ago, and already, the Chinese technology giant is working on its second model. The companion to the SU7 will be an SUV similar in shape to the Ferrari Purosangue and could premiere as early as October.
A handful of prototypes of the new model have been spied testing in recent months. It’s currently known as the MX11 and is tipped to share much of its design with the brand’s electric sedan. When we first reported on the SUV in June, it was expected to be unveiled in 2025. However, Chinese media speculates that a large media event held by Xiaomi in October will host the debut of the new model, alongside a series of new consumer electronic products from the brand.

Spy shots of the MX11 indicate that it will not be a large SUV by any means, and sit noticeably lower than many other rivals. Indeed, it may simply look like a swollen SU7 that’s taken a few too many growth hormones, looking more like a cross between a liftback and a traditional SUV. This is no bad thing as the SU7 looks very sleek, and the increase in size will improve interior space and practicality.
Although we have a fairly good idea of what Xiaomi’s second model will look like, few technical details are known about it.
It would be logical for Xiaomi to build it on the same ‘Modena’ platform as the SU7, complete with the same battery packs and electric motor options. However, some sources have claimed it could be based on a new platform that supports a range-extender option. If that’s the case, then changes would need to be made under the hood to support a small ICE engine.
