• The new lithium iron phosphate battery pack in the Zeekr 007 is claimed to charge at the fastest rate in the world.
  • It can go from a 10-80% charge in ten and a half minutes.
  • The battery delivers a CLTC range of 428 miles when fully charged.

Electric vehicles face a number of hurdles including high prices and a lackluster charging infrastructure. If those issues weren’t bad enough, owners also face long recharging times.

Thankfully, a number of companies are working to address these problems and make EVs far more attractive. Zeekr is among them and their latest battery can go from a 10-80% charge in a little over ten minutes.

That’s getting close to the time it would take to refuel a traditional ICE-powered vehicle and the company says this was made possible thanks to upgraded batteries that support 5.5C ultra-fast charging. The new lithium iron phosphate batteries have “optimized materials and upgraded technology,” which allows for a charging speed that is higher than existing nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries.

The battery will debut in the 007 sedan and Zeekr said the car’s enhanced battery management system ensures the “charging experience remains stable and fast even in harsh environmental conditions.” In particular, even at 14° F (-10° C), the vehicle can go from a 10-80% charge in 30 minutes.

Zeekr is slated to begin deliveries next week and the company has previously said the model will have a CLTC range of 428 miles (688 km). The car is also slated to get 311 miles (500 km) of range within 15 minutes.

Besides the high-tech battery, the 007 features an upscale interior with Nappa leather seats that have heating, ventilation, and massage functions up front. Rear seat passengers aren’t over looked as they’ll find butt warmers as well as a power recline function that tilts the backrest up to 7 degrees. Other highlights include a 15-inch infotainment system, a 35.5-inch head-up display, and a microfiber suede headliner.

The model rides on the Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) and features a choice of rear- and all-wheel drive. The former has 416 hp (310 kW / 421 PS), while the latter boasts 637 hp (475 kW / 646 PS). Customers can also get a long range battery, but it appears to eschew the high-speed charging tech.
