- The Ford Ranger PHEV debuted at the IAA Transportation with an exclusive Stormtrak trim.
- The powertrain combines a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a single electric motor, producing 275 hp.
- The electrified truck retains the payload, towing, and off-road capabilities of the standard Ranger.
Ford introduced the plug-in hybrid version of the Ranger midsize truck at the 2024 IAA Transportation in Hannover, exactly one year after announcing the electrified model. The Ranger PHEV retains the towing, payload, and off-road credentials of its non-electrified counterparts, while adding the benefit of a zero-emission driving mode and a PHEV-exclusive Stormtrak trim.
Starting with the electrified powertrain, it comprises the turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with a single 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) electric motor housed within the transmission’s bellhousing. The combined output is 275 hp (205 kW / 279 PS) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque, outperforming the gasoline and diesel models from the standard Ranger lineup (excluding the Raptor).

The PHEV setup includes an 11.8 kWh battery pack, allowing a target EV-only range of 45 km (28 miles). According to Ford, a full charge of the battery can be completed in less than four hours, while the electric motor also offers regenerative braking. Furthermore, the PHEV has an uprated Pro Power Onboard system, allowing owners to power their tools, electronic devices, or camping trailers, with standard 2.3 kW or optional 6.9 kW power supply.
Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox and an e-4WD system, featuring a dual-range transfer box and rear differential lock. Ford engineers tweaked the suspension setup, taking into account the different weight distribution of the PHEV. As with the non-electrified Ranger, the PHEV has a 1-tonne (2,205 pounds) payload and can tow up to 3,500 kg (7,716 pounds).

Visually, the electrified pickup looks like a regular Ranger, with the exception of the charging port, located near the fuel cap on the rear fender. However, Ford introduced a limited-run Stormtrak launch edition that is exclusive to the PHEV, featuring unique styling touches and generous equipment.
Highlights of the Ranger Stormtrak include a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels, a new honeycomb pattern on the grille, a decal set, and redesigned side gills with PHEV lettering. The pickup is painted in a Stormtrak-exclusive Chill Grey shade, although buyers can also order it in Agate Black. Furthermore, it comes standard with Matrix LED headlights, and the Flexible Rack System at the back.
Inside, Ford added high-quality materials, a 10-speaker B&O sound system, and a 360-degree camera on the 12-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The Ford Ranger PHEV will be manufactured at the Silverton plant in South Africa. Besides Europe, the model has also been confirmed for Australia and New Zealand. The first deliveries are scheduled to commence in spring 2025, while pricing will be announced closer to the market launch.
