• The Nissan Patrol debuted in the Middle East as a twin to the North American Armada.
  • The Patrol has more standard features than the Armada, plus an additional powertrain option.
  • The two models look the same, but the Armada is available in a rugged PRO-4X trim.

Nissan unveiled the seventh generation of the Patrol in the Middle East, coinciding with the debut of the Armada in North America. While the two nameplates are basically the same model, we were curious to check out any market-specific features.

The most important difference between the SUV twins is the available powertrains. The 2025 Nissan Armada is exclusively available with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine producing 425 hp (317 kW / 431 PS) and 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque, slightly detuned compared to the closely-related Infiniti QX80.

The Patrol also dropped the V8 option, but besides the aforementioned twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6, it also gets a naturally-aspirated 3.8-liter V6, generating 316 hp (235 kW / 320 PS) and 285 lb-ft (386 Nm) of torque. This will serve as the entry point in the lineup, for those who like their off-roaders with non-turbocharged powertrains.

Both the Armada and the Patrol are equipped with a nine-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear or to all four wheels. The full-time 4WD system can be had with a rear locking differential, further elevating the off-road prowess of the Toyota Land Cruiser rival.

Exterior: Identical Twins

Visually, the only way to tell apart the two SUVs is the yellow indicators of the Armada, which are a requirement in North America. The rest of the styling is identical, including the available 22-inch wheels and the color palette.

An asterisk is that the Nissan Armada is available in a rugged PRO-4X trim, with a slightly redesigned bodykit and all of the available off-road goodies. Chances are that the Patrol will get a similar trim in the future, possibly adopting a different name. If the previous generation is anything to go by, we also expect a Nismo-branded version of the Patrol with a host of performance-focused modifications sometime in the future.

Interior: The Patrol Is Even More Premium

Inside, both the Patrol and the Armada benefit from a host of technology and luxury features, getting closer to the more premium Infiniti QX80. While Nissan didn’t detail the entire lineup of the Patrol, the model appears to be better equipped than the Armada.

First of all, the Patrol comes standard with the sophisticated adaptive air suspension, offering adjustable ride height for easier ingress/egress. This is only available in the PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve flagship trims of the Armada, with the entry-level models featuring a steel suspension.

2025 NISSAN ARMADA

The dashboard of the Patrol has the dual 14.3-inch displays which are available in the high-spec Armada trims, replacing the dual 12.3-inch screens of the lower-spec models. Both SUVs benefit from the NissanConnect 2.0 infotainment with Google Built-In, and a comprehensive ProPILOT ADAS suite. The Patrol also offers the option of dual 12.8-inch screens for the rear passengers, which is a must-have for Middle Eastern buyers.

Another standard feature in the Patrol that is optional in the Armada is the panoramic roof. Available goodies in both SUVs include the 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio system, massaging seats with eight-way adjustment, and the Biometric Cooling technology. The latter utilizes built-in infrared sensors to scan the body temperature of the first- and second-row passengers, making the best out of the climate control.

Availability

The Nissan Patrol will be available in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other Middle Eastern markets, starting from November 1, 2024. Australia will also get the Patrol, but prospective buyers Down Under will have to wait until late 2026 to place their order.

As for the Nissan Armada, sales in North America will commence in late 2024. Pricing will be announced closer to the respective market launches of the two models.
