• Police tried to pull over a suspect for a traffic violation before using the PIT manuevuer to stop him.
  • He appears to finish a beer before police move in for the arrrest.
  • Now, he’s facing several serious charges.

Police have to determine the best way to protect the public every day. In Arkansas, it seems as though they revert to dangerous PIT maneuvers more than most of the nation. Of course, police never know what they’re going to find when they pull over or PIT any suspect. According to officers, the driver in this story actually climbed out of his ruined car and finished a beer before going to jail.

All of this happened in Forrest City, a municipality about two hours from Little Rock. Arkansas State Police heard that the local police department was in the midst of chasing a Dodge Ram that wouldn’t stop for a traffic violation. ASP officers joined the pursuit and took over before using what they call a TVI or Tactical Vehicle Intervention. That’s a PIT maneuver to all the rest of us.

As a result, the truck flipped over, rolled, and finally came to a stop in a ditch. Somehow, the driver made his way out of the mangled truck. When he did, he grabbed a can and appeared to finish it based on what we see in the dashcam video.

According to officers, that was a can of Busch beer. Perhaps his thought was that if he was going to jail, he might as well be a bit more buzzed when it went down. No amount of booze he had on hand could keep him from his charges though.

Now, he’s facing driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, driving without a seatbelt, driving without liability insurance, driving with an open container, drinking on the highway, improper lane change, failure to obey a traffic control device, and refusal to submit to chemical test charges.

Drinking and driving is a terrible idea no matter how one slices it. Drinking, driving, getting PITed by police, and then drinking a little more is one of the worst ideas we’ve seen carried out in a while. Stay safe out there everybody. While you might be a conscientious driver, not everyone around you necessarily is.
