- During a police attempt to pull over a driver, the van escalated to near-triple-digit speeds.
- The chase climaxed with the van flipping onto its side after failing to navigate a turn.
- Now, the driver faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and fleeing.
When one thinks of getaway vehicles, an old GMC cargo van probably doesn’t pop into their head. For one man in Arkansas, it’s all he had so he did his best and still landed in jail. Before getting there though he managed to launch the van into the air before it landed on its side. It’s unclear exactly what he hoped to accomplish but now he’s facing more charges than if he’d just pulled over.
The incident happened in Paris, Arkansas on August 28 when police officers attempted to pull over a white van. Almost as soon as they turn on their lights, the driver flips them off and speeds up. Despite a posted speed limit of 35 mph, the van and pursuing officer accelerate to highway speeds.

At one point, the van reached nearly triple-digit speeds. The officer attempted a PIT maneuver, but the driver abruptly slammed on his brakes and avoided it. Then, after several minutes of running, he attempts to turn down a dirt road. He’s carrying too much speed though and ends up overcooking the turn. Then he slides down into an embankment where the car launches up in the air and flips onto its side.
It’s unclear what his plan was. Getting away is hard to do in Arkansas and using an old GMC van on wide-open rural roads is perhaps the very worst combination possible. According to a report in the video description below, the officer seemingly knew the driver.
“The reason for the stop was the male driver was suspended,” it says. Seeing as the police didn’t pull the motorist over to find that information out it would seem as though they knew who it was.
Regardless, the driver is now facing several charges including littering, reckless driving, fleeing, exceeding the speed limit, and not having signals for turning, stopping, and decreasing speed. If not having a license didn’t stop him before though it might not stop him in the future.
