• Rivian has released a new teaser video showing an apparent R1T or R1S in KITT guise.
  • The clip was released on the 42nd anniversary of Knight Rider’s first episode.
  • We’ll learn more in October, but you might want to keep your Michael Knight fantasies in check.

Kids won’t be the only ones dressing up for Halloween as Rivian has released a cryptic teaser worthy of the Knight Industries Two Thousand. Better known as KITT, the Pontiac Firebird starred in Knight Rider and has become one of the most recognizable cars in Hollywood.

As you can see in the 15 second clip, a leather-clad Michael Knight walks into a dark scene to be greeted by the familiar red light that signifies KITT. It’s accompanied by a telltale whooshing noise that you’ll likely remember from your childhood.

KITT then turns on its lights to reveal it’s now a Rivian. The video ends shortly thereafter, but we can see the model features a classic black exterior as well as blacked out badging.

Rivian isn’t saying much at this point, but stated “Keep your scanners peeled. A new adventure arrives this October.”

That’s vague, but fans are undoubtedly hoping for a KITT-themed software update that adds a moving red light to the bar that connects the headlights. However, this seems unlikely as a number of laws say something along the lines of a “lighting device or reflector, when mounted on or near the front of a motor vehicle … shall not display any other color than white, yellow, or amber.”

Of course, that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be other KITT-themed goodies on the way. It’s also possible that this is just a fun promo and we shouldn’t read too much into it. Regardless, one social media commenter noted the teaser was released on the 42nd anniversary of Knight Rider’s first episode which aired on September 26, 1982.
