- A late evening house fire damaged roughly half of a million dollars worth of cars.
- Cars on the property include a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, and several JDM vehicles.
- It’s unclear what caused the fire but foul play isn’t suspected.
Firefighters arrived at Willowridge Court in Oakville, Ontario late on September 5 to find a garage on fire. Inside were several vehicles. At least two were “completely destroyed” and it’s estimated that the damage is in excess of $500,000. It appears as though some very special cars like a Lamborghini Murcielago and an R32 Nissan Skyline survived.
The fire started sometime around 10:30 p.m. and appears to have damaged a Toyota MR2 that was sitting on a vehicle lift. Beneath it was a yellow Ferrari. Another Ferrari, a BMW 4-Series, a Lamborghini Murcielago, an R32 Nissan Skyline, and a Toyota Supra all seem as though they escaped major damage.

According to CHCH, police don’t believe there was any foul play here. The firefighters reportedly say that it could’ve started with a faulty breaker box or even a battery in the garage. There are no clear indications of what the fire department meant but it seems unlikely that the battery explanation includes an electric vehicle. Those are notoriously hard to put out and it would be reasonable for the fire department to mention that if it were the case.
In January, a house fire involving a hybrid Volvo and a Tesla caused significant damage and presented what firefighters called “a significant challenge.” The batteries can often experience thermal runaway and continue to burn until sufficient means cools them to stop the chain reaction.
In the case of the home with the exotic sports cars, it appears as though the damage is almost exclusively located on one edge of the garage and didn’t have enough time to spread before authorities put out the blaze. Most importantly, everyone in each of the homes mentioned, including pets, escaped without serious injury.
