- The price hike comes despite no changes being made to the 2025 model.
- Now starting at $46,690, the Civic Type R is only $200 cheaper than the 2024 VW Golf R.
- Power comes courtesy of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 315 hp and 310 lb-ft.
The Honda Civic Type R is a brilliant car. In fact, many consider it one of the best value performance cars on the market right now. Unfortunately, it just got a little pricier in the United States and will now set back customers a minimum of $45,595, or $46,690 after you factor in the $1,095 destination charge.
This price represents an $800 hike over the 2024 model. That’s not too bad, given that inflation has led to price increases of pretty much everything over the past year, but it does push the Civic Type R ever closer to the 2024 VW Golf R that kicks off from $46,890. It also makes the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla, available from $36,500, or $37,635 with destination, an even more compelling buy.

Honda has not made any updates to the 2025 Civic Type R. While it hardly needed any updates, it would have been nice if Honda sprinkled in some software tweaks, or perhaps safety improvements, to help better justify the price rise. When it comes to smiles per mile, the Honda remains tough to beat.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 315 hp at 6,500 rpm and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission that just so happens to be one of the very finest stick shifts on the market.
Honda doesn’t have much room to keep increasing prices, however. If it encroaches too close to the $50,000 mark, that would put it in competition with one of the most well-rounded sports cars at this price point – the BMW M240i. The carmaker also needs to leave room for the slightly more premium Acura Integra Type R that shares its engine with the Type R but starts at $53,795.
