Many iconic sports cars came out of Japan in the late 1990s and early 2000s and prices for all of them have soared in recent years. The Mazda RX-7 is no exception, but that doesn’t make this example any less desirable.
This 1997 RX-7 is a special Japanese-market RS-R 30th Anniversary Edition and is one of just 250 examples finished in Sunburst Yellow. It’s been tastefully modified and is up for auction with service records and a clean Florida title.

The listing reveals the seller purchased the car in 2022 and, over two years, changed several exterior parts to mimic the look of the 1999 RX-7. New front and rear bumpers were sourced from Mazda in Japan as well as a set of 1999-spec taillights. It has then been fitted with aftermarket side skirts and an AutoExe front lip. Completing the sensational looks is a set of beautiful BBS RG-R forged wheels.
This RX-7 is also fitted with a replacement 1.3-liter 13B Wankel engine featuring a pair of sequential turbochargers. Other upgrades include an HKS exhaust system, a Koyo radiator, a new fuel pump, dual oil coolers, a set of adjustable Ohlins coilovers, and an A’PEXi Power FC control unit. A replacement five-speed manual transmission has also been bolted in.
The interior of the car is quite basic, although that’s hardly a surprise. It sports a pair of bucket seats clad in black cloth and a Momo steering wheel.
